There are two primary ways you can create a website.

1) The free option often requires that you create what is called a "subdomain" hosted within an third-party domain hosting provider. The downside is that it only allows you to partially customize the URL path, but hey its free! One such service that offers this ability is Weebly.com, there are many others that can be found via your favourite search-engine.

For example: This very webpage is actually hosted in that manner, as you can see from the URL, there is a subdomain component that I choose and then a "weebly.com" domain name host.


2) The second option is to create and customize your own website domain name in full, but as you problaby guessed... that has an associated fee to it, thankfully however that fee is relatively low per year; one such popular service for customizing website names (URLs/Domains) is GoDaddy.com, it allows you to create and then register a customizable domain-name in full of your own choosing.
